Who knew I needed a new song from Rihanna? I accidently stumbled upon her new song “Lift Me Up”, which is the lead single off the new “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” movie soundtrack. Rihanna’s last major release was in 2016. Since then, she has been busy building her Fenty empire and also announced this year, she is having her first child with rapper boyfriend, ASAP Rocky.
“Lift Me Up” is a tribute to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020, at the age of 43, after battling colon cancer. This emotionally filled ballad is definitely ear grabbing. Rihanna flexes her vocal chops as she belts out notes that are so soothing, relaxing and inspirational. After being released on October 28, 2022, the song landed at number 1 on Billboard’s relaunched, Hot Trending Songs chart.
Rihanna also had her biggest streaming day on Spotify, with the release of “Lift”, totaling close to 25 million streams on release day. I guess I wasn’t the only one that thought they needed another Rihanna song. With another song on the Black Panther 2 soundtrack, it sounds as if a full length project may be in the works?
It’s been 6 years since her last full length project and maybe, just maybe, this is a preview of what’s to come in 2023. Rihanna, we know you are busy building your empire, but give your fans another gem to listen to …they’ve been patiently waiting.
